Commodore Mohammad Saghir Shettima is a General Officer of the Nigerian Navy. He has completed several career courses, notably at the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna (1995–2001), the Naval War College in Pakistan (2011–2012), and the National Defence College in Nigeria (2023–2024). In the field of professional qualification, he participated in specialized courses such as the Child Protection Course (UNAMID, Sudan, 2016), the Higher Strategic Defence Management Course (National Defence College, Nigeria, 2024), and the Aviation Operations Management Course (China, 2025).

In addition to his military training, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences (2000), a Master’s degree in Maritime Warfare Studies (2012), and a Master’s degree in Strategic and Security Studies (2024).

Throughout his career, he has gained extensive operational experience, participating in national and international missions, including the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur. He has been involved in operations and exercises in the Gulf of Guinea and other areas of interest, commanding ships and coastal facilities in maritime security activities, counter-piracy, suppression of transnational crimes, resource protection, and shallow water operations, as well as hostage rescue and special forces insertion actions, serving as a helicopter pilot.

He has been awarded the Meritorious Service Star and the Forces Service Star, and holds the Command at Sea Badge and Captaincy Helicopters (Multi Ratings) insignia.

Among the positions he has held, notable ones include Commander of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Igbokoda (February to August 2023) and Commanding Officer of NNS Dorina (January 2017 to October 2018).

Currently, he serves as the Commander of the Combined Maritime Task Force for the Gulf of Guinea (CMTF-GoG), responsible for coordinating efforts to combat maritime security threats, such as piracy and transnational crimes in the Gulf of Guinea.
