
Rear Admiral LUCIANO CALIXTO DE ALMEIDA JUNIOR joined the Brazilian Navy (MB) in 1994 and, after completing a Bachelor's Degree in Naval Sciences with a specialization in Electronics at the Naval School, was commissioned as Midshipman on December 13, 1997.
Throughout his career, the following assignments stand out: Frigate União (Chief of Operations); Argentine Navy Frigate “Libertad” (Exchange Officer); Training Ship “Brasil” (Instructor); Instruction Ship “Guarda-Marinha Brito” (Commander); Naval Operations Command (Aide-de-Camp); Navy General Staff (Aide-de-Camp); Naval School (Instructor); Ocean Tug “Tridente” (Commander); Southeast Naval Patrol Group Command (Chief of Operations); Directorate of Navigation (Advisor for Environment and C&T); U.S. Southern Command Naval Forces Staff (Liaison Officer); Naval Operations Command (Chief of Staff); Combined Task Force 151 - Bahrain (Chief of Operations); Maritime Operations and Protection of the Blue Amazon Command (Institutional Relations); and Port Captaincy of Rio de Janeiro (Port Captain).
Among the main career courses, the following stand out: Electronics Specialization for Officers; Surface Officers Improvement; Staff College for Intermediate Officers and Staff College for Senior Officers (Naval War School); Defense Superior Course (Higher Defense School); and Maritime Policy and Strategy (Naval War School).
His academic background also includes a Specialization in Project Management (COPEAD/UFRJ); Postgraduate studies in Armed Conflicts and Crisis Management (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya in partnership with UNITAR); and a Master’s degree in Conflict Resolution (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya in partnership with UNITAR).
Rear Admiral CALIXTO has been awarded the following honors: Order of Naval Merit (Officer Grade); Military Medal (Gold Clasp); Tamandaré Merit Medal; Sailor Merit Medal (Three Anchors); Naval War School Award Medal; Admiral Marques de Leão Award Medal; United States Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (USA); and Tiradentes Medal (Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro State).
Promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral on November 25, 2026, he assumed, on December 9 of the same year, the position of Commander of Maritime Operations and Protection of the Blue Amazon, concurrently with the position of Deputy Chief of Operations of the Naval Operations Command.
He also assumed, on March 6, 2025, the role of Coordinator of the South Atlantic Maritime Area (CAMAS).
