Professor Tatiana Silva da Silva, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geodesy at the Institute of Geosciences of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). She is a permanent faculty member of the Graduate Program in Remote Sensing at the same institution, where she also teaches Geographic Information Systems at the undergraduate level.

She holds a degree in Oceanology, with a minor in Environmental Management and Renewable Natural Resources (1999), and earned both her Master’s (2002) and Doctorate (2008) in Physical, Chemical, and Geological Oceanography from the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG).

Throughout her academic and institutional career, she has held prominent positions, such as Vice-Director of the Institute of Geosciences (2020–2024), Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Remote Sensing (2017–2019), Coordinator of the Extension Commission of IGEO-UFRGS (2013–2017), and member of the UFRGS Extension Chamber (2014–2016). Currently, she represents UFRGS on the Advisory Council of the Lagoa do Peixe National Park.

She has extensive experience in the field of Oceanography, with an emphasis on coastal management, focusing primarily on the application of geographic information systems and remote sensing for environmental management and planning, especially in coastal zones. Her research interests include spatial modeling in GIS and ecosystem-based management approaches.

Noteworthy is her role as Methodological and Quality Coordinator and Specialist in Territory Planning and Management for the Ecological-Economic Zoning of Rio Grande do Sul (ZEE-RS), as well as her participation in the United Nations Pool of Experts in the area of coastal zone planning and management.

Currently, she serves as the General Coordinator of the Port Environmental Management Program for the Port of Porto Alegre and as the Technical-Scientific Coordinator of the Pilot Project for Marine Spatial Planning of the Southern Region of Brazil (PEM Sul).
