Ambassador José Pedro Máximo Chantre D’Oliveira

The Ambassador José Pedro Máximo Chantre D’Oliveira is from Chã de Pedras, a town in the central-north part of the island of Santo Antão, Cape Verde. He has a master's degree in sustainable tourism from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain and has a degree in Hotel and Tourism Management and Technique from the Escola Superior de Hotelaria e Turismo do Porto.

Ambassador José Pedro was a mathematics teacher between 1975 and 1976, a trainer for hotel staff in Luanda, Angola, between 1983 and 1984, and Director of the Hotel Marisol in Praia, Cape Verde, between 1985 and 1986. He was the owner and manager of the restaurant The Poet, between 1986 and 1990 and also worked as a consultant for groups of external investors, between 1993 and 1995.

In the political field, he stood out as a member of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC), from 1970 to 1976 and actively participated, between 1990 and 1991, in the political opening of the country which culminated, in September 1992, in the approval of the current Constitution of the Republic of Cape Verde. He has been a member of the National Directorate of the Movement for Democracy (MPD) since 2005, National Deputy for the MPD Party between 2001 and 2006 and President of the National Convention and the Table of the National Directorate of the MPD since 2016. In addition to Portuguese, the Ambassador speaks French , English and Italian.

Since October 2020, he has held the position of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Cape Verde, in Brasília.
