About the Seminar
The Brazilian Navy and the United Nations (UN), via the Brazilian Marine Corps and the Naval Peace Operations Training Centre (COpPazNav), will hold the Naval Peace Operations International Seminar. The event has the purpose of discussing ideas, sharing experiences and good practices, as well as proposing solutions to problems faced by peacekeeping missions in a scenario as complex as the maritime.
The Naval Peace Operations Seminar will be organized in three panels, namely: “Asymmetric Threats in the Maritime Environment and Peacekeeping”; “Maritime Peacekeeping Operations: Overcoming the Challenges of Keeping Peace at Sea”; and “Maritime Peacekeeping Operations: Training and Teaching Peace at Sea”. The panels will feature national and international experts on the topics at hand, such as UN generals and heads of similar organizations.
The COpPazNav of the Brazilian Navy, located in the Education Centre Admiral Sylvio de Camargo (CIASC), is the training unit of the Brazilian Navy for peacekeeping operations, especially those of a maritime nature, such as the one carried out by the Maritime Task Force in United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (FTM-UNIFIL). The COpPazNav has been contributing to the consolidation of the Force and the United Nations values. The officer in charge of COpPazNav and the Seminar coordinator is the Lieutenant Commander Marcia Andrade Braga, who received the UN Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award in New York this year.
The event will be held on October 31st at COpPazNav, CIASC, located on Ilha do Governador, Rio de Janeiro.
