   The motto PACIS NAUTAE was created in the first half of 2015, on the occasion of the 9th Brazilian Contingent of the Maritime Task Force (MTF) of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), the first and only Peace Mission of the United Nations Nations (UN) with a Naval Force, currently commanded by a Rear Admiral of the Brazilian Navy.

   FTM-UNIFIL works in close cooperation with the Lebanese authorities to curb the entry of illegal weapons into Lebanon by the sea and to develop the Lebanese navy's operational capabilities. It operates in an operational environment of extreme sensitivity and importance for stability in the Middle East region.

   In view of the composition of the MTF-UNIFIL by ships and crews from six nations (Germany, Bangladesh, Brazil, Greece, Indonesia and Turkey), with a history of territorial disputes among themselves, in addition to linguistic, cultural and procedural differences, if the need to develop an extra factor of union, for the sedimentation of a "Esprit de Corps" that would amalgamate the marine community inserted in an environment traditionally manned by mentality and land troops, as is the UN.

   The role of Peacekeepers refers to activities to create an environment conducive to lasting peace. Such "peacekeepers", also known as "blue berets" include, men and women, military personnel in the armed forces and police, as well as by contracted civilians. Since the creation of MTF-UNIFIL in 2006, crews of “sailor soldiers” embarked on patrol ships, corvettes and frigates have become part of this select group.

   Although Latin is not included in the list of languages ​​spoken within the scope of the UN, as it is a universal language, it was chosen to designate the terms of the MTF-UNIFIL motto, for its immutable and, why not say, sacred character.

   Thus, understanding that the main task of MTF-UNIFIL is to ensure the peaceful use of the sea, through which almost all the trade that guarantees life and peace in Lebanon, guaranteed by the day-to-day work of “men and women of the sea”, the term PACIS NAUTAE was chosen, which translated into English means:

PEACE SAILORS!
